Water heating accounts for about a third of household energy use, so managing how you heat and use hot water can lead to significant savings.

  • Insulate older hot water cylinders
  • Set the thermostat to 60°C.
  • Consider heating water during off-peak times.
  • Fix any leaking hot water taps.

  • Schedule your washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, EV charger, and any battery charging for off-peak periods.
  • Wash clothes in cold water, choose showers over baths, switch to energy efficient light bulbs, turn off lights when not in use, and avoid leaving appliances on standby.
  • Hang clothes out to dry instead of using a dryer whenever possible.

Solar Panels

Solar panels on your roof can substantially reduce electricity costs. You will need funds available to buy them or you may be able to secure a low interest bank loan.
